Who Are You? A Butcher, A Baker, A Candlestick Maker?

When you think about yourself and your life what do you identify with? To put it in storybook rhyme, are you a Butcher a Baker a Candlestick Maker or a little bit of all? What list would you give if someone asked you to name five things you do every day, week or month that you identify with? Do you rise before the sun, read the paper every day, sip that first cup of coffee before talking, run a couple miles every day, walk the dog to the park and back each night, meet up with the guys to play a game of hoops twice a week?

I was talking to a gentleman the other day and he lit up when we started talking about being active. Seems he and a few of his buddies have been hitting the “Y” every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 a.m. since the 1980’s. His wife is amazed her 60 something honey gets up early on these days to get a good cardio work out and socialize with his lifelong buds. He can’t imagine not doing it!

There is a woman at Bible Study that has been attending classes for years each Wednesday morning throughout the winter and spring and she claims it is her favorite day of the week. Her husband often greats her over breakfast with “I can tell by your excitement this is Bible Study day”.

What is it that you identify with, what are you made up of, who is your whole being? Whether you are the Butcher with culinary skills known throughout your family and network, the Baker who greets all with a homemade slice of warmth or the Candlestick Maker that gets the job done regardless, it is what makes you a very special you!
